Behind the Scenes at Jurassic, No. 1: Snow Report from Strobel
Welcome to the first note from a new series we are starting this season. We call it Behind the Scenes at Jurassic, and the idea is simple: from time to time we will send you a short piece from the lodge, straight from us, about what is actually going on. Nothing polished, nothing corporate. Just the reality of running Jurassic Lake through a full year, because we honestly think what happens behind the scenes here is genuinely interesting, and we want you to see it too.
Snow Report from Strobel
Some good news to kick things off. This past winter has been one of the snowiest we have seen in years at Lago Strobel. It makes getting the lodge started a lot more complicated, with big snowdrifts covering the road into the lake, but for the fishing this is the best possible way to start a season. A heavy winter means solid water levels once the melt comes down, a healthy Barrancoso, and a river in the strong condition we want when the fishing starts. Water is the single biggest factor for us, and this year we are set up beautifully.
Behind the scenes we are already deep into the yearly rhythm of getting the lodge ready. Next week is a key one. Either the snow softens a bit and we get in with our trucks on chains, shovels in hand to clear the drifts by ourselves, or if it does not, we bring in heavy machinery to open the road. Either way, one thing is certain: next week the whole team will be at the lodge with everything we need to prepare the start of the season. Trucks will get serviced, the lodge will get its full maintenance, and the kitchen and tackle room will be restocked. It is not glamorous work, but it is the reason things run smoothly once the first guests arrive.
For now, our updates come from the caretaker who rides out on horseback around the lake and keeps us posted on how everything is looking. He sends photos regularly, and the place is looking wild and beautiful under the snow. Here are a few he sent us this week so you can see how Strobel is right now.
The 2026 to 2027 season runs from September through May. In the next episode we will share the opening of the lodge with photos of the crew heading up.
